Exercise during pregnancy

30 weeks pregnant and staying strong

This weeks video will teach you a Pilates exercise called Clams, I will show you level 1 and also an open chain exercise. This will help strengthen part of the gluteal muscles called Gluteus medias, this muscle helps us with walking, running and balance. If this becomes weak we may get pain in our hips, back and/or knees. I have prescribed this exercise to pregnant ladies suffering with pelvic girdle pain and I remember a particular lady who struggled to sleep at night due to the pain. I taught this lady in one of my Pilates classes and focussed on the Clam series the following week she was delighted to tell me she had the best night sleep that night pain-free.

I am now 30 weeks pregnant and getting closer to my due date I must say I am still staying strong and active but I am finding I am ready for my bed by the end of the day. What I have noticed is that my buttock muscles are still strong and I am still climbing over my husband at night to get out of bed (our bed is against the wall and yes I am still next to the wall). I am still teaching Pilates and are planning to continue to teach for at least another 6 weeks but I have warned my class that I can still do my Glut's strengthen exercises therefore my students have great buttocks.
