PHYSIOTHERAPY : METHODS OF TREATMENT

The Physiotherapy treatments we offer at Ultimate Performance Lifestyle include:

Joint mobilisation therapy

Joint mobilisation is the skilled movement of articular joints, such as  shoulder, elbows, knees, hips and ankles. This type of therapy can be effective in helping to decrease pain and increase joint mobility and flexibility.

Soft tissue massage

Soft tissue release is a hands-on treatment that involves a trigger pointing and deep tissue massage. It can be an effective treatment in remedying aches and pains and is used to support rehabilitation from injury or surgery.

Spinal mobilisation therapy

Spinal mobilisation is a form of Physiotherapy that uses hands-on therapy, it can be helpful in improving the mobility of clients with restricted movement.

Muscle stretching therapy

This hands-on treatment is used to actively stretch and lengthen muscles that are too short.

Cupping therapy

Cupping therapy, is an ancient alternative treatment. We offer both static cupping, applied to create suction, and can incorporate Cupping therapy as a massage technique. Cupping therapy can be used to help reduce pain and inflammation, as well as increasing blood flow and promoting a sense of relaxation.

Acupuncture

Our approach to Acupuncture (the insertion of very thin, sterile, needles into targeted areas of the body) combines Eastern and Western therapies with evidenced based treatments. Acupuncture can be used to help alleviate pain and encourage the release of endorphins and serotonin hormones.

Electro-Acupuncture

Once the fine, sterile acupuncture needles have been inserted into the client’s body, with Electro-Acupuncture a low-level electric current is passed through the needles. This can increase the intensity of endorphins and serotonin hormones generated.

Ultrasound therapy

Applying high frequency sound waves between 0.9 – 3 MHz directly to affected areas, Ultrasound therapy can be used to help with the recovery of deep tissue related injuries. Ultrasound therapy is often used to aid the recovery of ligament, muscle, tendon strain and bursitis which is commonly experienced in the hips and knees.

Taping

Taping is often used for the prevention, or treatment of, sporting injuries. Our Physiotherapists can tape an injured area and help to educate clients on how to correctly tape themselves so they can manage their recovery on a daily basis.

Rehabilitation treatments

Our team is focused on helping clients understand how the principles of Physiotherapy can be incorporated into their lives so they can improve their health long-term. As such, our treatment plans often incorporate recommended exercises and lifestyle adjustments including:

Posture realignment: Applying the team’s deep understanding of the benefits of Pilates and Yoga based treatments, we often teach clients specific exercises to aid posture realignment. Additionally, we educate clients on how they can incorporate small lifestyle changes such as how they sit at a desk, the position of their car seat, how they walk, or even how they hold a dog’s lead, that will help alleviate discomfort and pain.

Recommended exercises: Treatment plans often include a personalised exercise plan written by our Physiotherapists designed to support your recovery. Using the on-site fully equipped gym, yoga and Pilates studio we have at our Peterborough Physiotherapy clinic, we can demonstrate to clients recommended exercises to help increase flexibility, correct posture, improve balance and perform fascia release.
